Do you ever feel like you dont know who you are? Not sure what is actually truth and what is just stuff bouncing around in your head. There was a time when believing what I was told was of necessity. It satisfied me and gave me great contentment. Often those things were more truths of the community(the particular group of individuals I was with at the time). Have you ever butted heads with something that you once believed? I seem to being doing a lot of that. I often feel like I am on an island, alone and searching--longing for a companion(in the world of thoughts of course). Occasionally someone hops on your island for a moment and it feels so good. Occasionally you try to verbalize something you are going through and you can tell the other person isn't getting it. That can feel terrible. It is such a challenge to be known.
It strikes me that words can be our greatest tool in the process of discovery but also our greatest adversary when it comes to dialoguing with others. In most Christian circles I have been in there are certain unspoken rules of dialogue. Some things when "thought" just can not be said. Are there things you believe(at least at this moment) that you would not say? I would like a place where it is just dialogue, not conclusions. Where people can say the craziest things and not feel the weight of orthodoxy pressing on them. Often we are afraid of being misunderstood and so we pass through life playing the game by the unspoken rules.
As I am writing this I find it necessary to comment on the difference between the written word and the spoken word. Nobody is speaking here so there is a lot of room for speculation and misunderstanding. On that note here is a quote from Socrates warning one of his students(Phaedrus) on the disadvatages of written communcication when compared to face-to-face conversation.
"The fact is, Phaedrus, that writing invloves a similar disadvantage to painting. The productions of painting look like living beings, but if you ask them a question they maintain a solemn silence. The same holds true of written words; you might suppose that they understand what they are saying, but if you ask them what they mean by anything they simply return the same answer over and over again. Besides, once a thing is committed to writing it circulates equally among those who understand the subject and those who have no business with it; a writing cannot distinguish between suitable and unsuitable readers. And if it is ill-treated or unfairly abused it always needs its parent to come to its resuce; it is quite incapable of defending or helping itself."
"Learning is not a consequence of teaching or listening, but a consequence of thinking"
Le us think together not neccesarily alike.

B.Allen, this is good stuff. I hope you feel the freedom to speak around me...I have never thought of the writing/speaking thing before. Very interesting. The virtue I love about writing is that it is referable material, concrete and frozen in time, like a photograph, but, like a photo, it can be an inaccurate image. That is where the challenge of becoming a good and competent writer comes in. The great ability to say something in such a way that it is only interpreted the way you intended.

You have other people on that island...its just a friggin big one so its hard to find people on it. Keep searching. I think the joy of looking is knowing that each day that goes by, a little more is revealed...until that day....THAT ONE DAY WHEN WE SEE FULLY - know as we are known....
I am looking forward to seeing you on that day too - along with PWO!
Blake your so cool- I love the fact that you are so willing to LIVE your life. A lot of others stay in the box but you are a boundry breaker and I love that about you. Keep up the good stuff- You got me thinkin'

I want to hear deep thoughts that conflict your soul. Things that we do or believe that dont really resonate with our soul.
Example:
Why is it so difficult to talk about religion or politics? Two people who love each other can come to blows over stuff that may be relatively meaningless in the greater scheme of things.
Why do we pray to Jesus when he told us to pray to the father? Can you find any place where anyone prays to Jesus? Please show me cuz I could be wrong.
Why did concepts like Hell and Heaven suddenly appear in the New Testament?
I drive a Lexus SC400. A relatively nice car. Why do I feel really good being seen in it. That bothers me. A car and ones personal value being derived from possesions is really a debilitating plague in our culture.
It is a depreciating asset. The funny thing is I started making more money when I bought it. Weird!!!!! So it is like there is a game and there are certain rules you have to learn, to play it well. The danger is many don't see the game, and they are no longer moving pieces, but pieces that are being moved. Then it is destructive and even if you think you aer winning you are really losing.
I could go on and on. This is my world.

Do you want to hear answers or questions? Or questions that cannot be answered. Or questions that can be answered, just not easily because it might step on the toes of tradition.
I suppose you can do whatever you want? I am not sure how this BLOG will evolve. I am better at questions than answers.I believe there are a lot of people out there who feel like they are struggling with the conventional christian experience. On an island so to speak. I want revolutionary ideas and profound answers. I believe that most people don't really understand what they believe. In the sense that their head and their heart are not connected on the same idea. We have been told what to believe our whole lives. If we are going to discuss these things I would like to do it in the broad context of all history.

I always suffered from a deep need to be understood, yet my life insisted on being complex. Where complexity exists, there is an effort to be made on the part of the observer. I wanted to reduce as many stumbling blocks to my deepest intent as possible. I felt somehow, the true soul in me was indeed noble, pure and honest. I also felt that there were an impossible number of perspectives at which one could approach any given person or subject, however to know how any idle word spoken would change the universe?
This is when I realized that quantum physics exist in language as well. There is a universal string allowing humans to effectively communicate and coordinate, even though we were struck in Babel so many years ago. The tower seems to have been rebuilt. Whatever will we do now? Does heaven shake? I think not.
If you take the double slit experiment as an example, then you can imagine that one conversation is one 'experiment'. Each sentence, like each atom, could to through one or the other. But who knows how any one person will react or understand or appreciate any other person's words? Given the impossibly difficult to comprehend number of perspectives possible if using the Space/Time and e=mc2 (train example) then however would it be safe to speak to anyone? EVER?
This is placing an incredible amount of pressure on someone who is desperate to be embraced. My inner self wanted simply to love and be love in an environment of security.
Ohhh My Goodness!!! You people make my teeny tiny brain hurt so much and the smoke alarm keeps going off!!! However ya'll are great people and I am blesed to have ya'll as family!!!

Hey, I am watching a movie, "What the *uc^ do we know" which was really good until it started to try to define God. In any case, I think you'd appreciate it.
Well Maybe I'll give it a shot here Blake!, First off, man It's good to hear the sound of your voice again, I always cherish the memories of your company and the warm hospitality of your parents extended to me when I was a stranger in a foreign land, without family nor friend.I say purposely 'the sound of your voice' because I belive that if you write from your spirit then those of a like spirit can hear exactly what you're saying, just as you can read the word n hear the heart of the author, while as yet another sees only the same old stuff they learned in sunday school.
My 3 week old baby girl just woke up n needs her pappa bear, so I'll just use this space to say Hi Blake, its good to see you still wanting more
You cool Blake lets see some recent blogs
